Seven Days Makes One Weak

Well this week just keeps getting better and better. Sunday, I ran into my ex and the grandchild. It was a tough reminder of how much I miss one of them. This along with a few other reminders of things that didn't turn out as planned led me to a few extra adult beverages and perhaps a bit heavier on the adult part. Subsequently, I began picking over my life with that fine-toothed comb reserved for pity-parties with too much booze. Of course, the next step is the all too familiar games of "What If" and "If Only", which then led to more adult beverages. That night ended in a blur of frozen pizza full-reverse. Woke up Monday morning with a massive, raging headache, like nothing I can remember. I've never had a hangover before so I assumed my age and stupidity had caught up with me and I deserved what I got. While I was struggling to get ready for work I suddenly got violently sick again. Almost no warning and no more pizza. It was painful. I got a text from a c...

Everybody's broken...

It is rare that words fail me. Seldom am I speechless. Often, when I cannot find my own words, I find that someone has already penned my every thought, my deepest feelings, my darkest fears and my greatest triumphs. For every situation in life, there is a song, a lyric that fits. Better than Hallmark, I can always say what I want with the words of some poet. I'm rambling on so, of course, I don't have the words to express myself today. I've been feeling anxious and grumpy and discontent overall lately. Sometimes, when you think you're at the end of your rope and just barely hanging on, someone unties the other end. If you read this and it makes no sense to you, it's OK, it wasn't really meant for you. There are maybe 2 or 3 people who will understand a majority of this post. Some people may identify with something in here on a personal level, unrelated to my own struggles. That is the power of a good lyric or poem I think. For those few who know... Hey God - Tel...

Two and a Half Channels...

OK, so most people who know me, know that I have only had 2½ channels for years. One that always comes in great, one that comes in pretty good most of the time and one that comes in sporadically at best. You know, on a cloudy day, if I open the front door and hold onto the doorknob while touching the antenna, I can almost tell an elbow from a knee. Yeah, that's the half. Well, unless you live under a rock or in a cave, you can't help but know that television is going all digital. It was supposed to happen on the 17th of February but, thankfully, I got a reprieve from the President.  Now, I have a 19 year old TV with a cheap rabbit ears antenna and an almost equally old VCR. I already had to buy a box to allow me to hook up a DVD player a few years ago.  It is no secret that I am a procrastinator but early on I decided to send off for the coupon offered by the government to offset the cost of the digital converter. I got them in the mail but it became a contest of which would ha...

Rerun: Giving Thanks

This was originally posted at myspace.com/imanetjunkie HERE . (On Thanksgiving) It is so easy to forget what Thanksgiving is all about or to become so self-involved as to forget what we have to be thankful for. I haven't forgotten that the economy is bad. I haven't forgotten that we are in the middle of a war with no real end in sight. I haven't forgotten that people are starving and homeless here at home and abroad. I haven't forgotten Aids or Alzheimer's. I haven't forgotten that in the same year of change that we elected the first black President of the US, we also categorically and intentionally denied the freedom and rights of a growing portion of the population to enjoy the same privileges to share their lives and declare their love in front of God and man, to secure the same benefits as a traditional married couple. In essence, we haven't stepped forward, only sideways. I seem to have forgotten my point momentarily, however. I expected to be working o...
